I talked to the promoter of the Freedom Rally and they said we could wear our colors. That solves that problem, dont it.

Double D said:   March 13, 2010 4:39 am PST
First I'd like to say GREAT JOB Biker Up Magazine! I'm so impressed with the growth of the magazine, in readership AND content! You are a true friend to the biker community, and as such, have a responsibility to promote ALL sponsors, regardless of your personal opinion. The issue of whether an event is color-friendly is entirely up to the promoters, and any concerns should be addressed to them. ( I personally agree with you both that a "no colors" policy is bad news.) I understand Rooster's frustration, as well. Perhaps he could write a piece on the subject for the magazine... maybe a reader's poll??? In the right tone, it could be used as a persuasive agrument to promoters everywhere. jmho. ;) In any case, thanks Ruth and company for all your hard work- you are the BEST!!!

Rooster, My personel feelings doesn"t pay for the printing and distribution of the magazine. I very much agree with the article about discrimination but thats my personal feelings. Promoters have a right to make their own rules concerning their events. If you don"t like them, don't go to their events. Its their loss because there are alot of bikers that wear colors. I, always advise them not to have a no colors rule but thats their decision not mine. Even though I don't agree with them, I can't discriminate against them and not run their ads because they choose to have this rule. The only time I will not allow an ad to run is if there is profanity, nudity or slander to someone else. BikerUp Magazine is a magazine for ALL bikers. You should contact the rally promoters that post no colors and let them know your feelings towards their rules.

ROOSTER said:   February 25, 2010 3:43 pm PST
the february issue is spectacular! loved the article about biker discrimination, and i know the bikerup staffs heart is in the right place on this issue, right? but once again i have found out that the american freedoms rally to be held in corbin ky. is advertising that they will have one of the largest military appreciation ceremonies in the u.s. but guess what? this rally is "NO COLORS" at least according to thier website. humm? vietnam vets m.c. second brigade m.c. wont be able to attend because some dumbass has implemented a no colors policy? come on yall! did yall research this rally b4 you agreed to advertise for them in bikerup? man if not which side of the road are you on? the bikers or the people with all the money to pay for advertising? hell if its all about money then charge a buck or 2 for the mag and stay true to what you say you stand for. im sure during the revolutionary war that the freedom press didnt sell any space to the british. come on! and bikerup already!

Biker Up Magazine is a magazine for all bikers. Although, I dont agree with the no colors sign, I cannot control restrictions that the advertisers put on their windows. I have contacted the sales rep to make them aware of the comment about them here. What they do about it is their own business. FYI, There is only one Omalleys there now and it has a new owner...Thanks for your input. Thats what this message board is for. Lets just hope that the comments left here reach the right people and they take the readers advice.

rooster said:   January 17, 2010 6:19 pm PST
biker up mag says its a magazine by bikers for bikers, its got lots of great articles and pics. it even has legislative news to help keep bikers well informed. this is good, but, if its a real biker magazine for bikers, then why does it allow establishments that are not biker friendly to advertise in its pages? im talking about omalleys 2 located in corbin ky. if omalleys 2 was biker friendly and deserved to be in this fine publication they would not have a "no colors" sign on thier entrance door. i for one will not spend my hard earned money at anyplace that has a sign like this that is offensive to real bikers. everyone that consoders themselves a biker should boycott omalleys 2.
